Patti LaBelle Columbus Concert reviews
I love Auntie Patti, but...
I first want to say that I love my Auntie Patti, and her music back in the 70's and 80's got me through some rough times and some good times as well. She's so real and never gave me the impression that she was a phony or pretentious! I was happy to go see her in St Petersburg, FL on 2/6/2023. I had great seats (about 10 rows from the stage) and was soooo happy to see her! She didn't pull a Millie Vanillie...it was her voice and her voice only!!! She can sing her face off! The reason for the 4 stars versus 5 stars is because the concert started a little after 7pm but ended at 8:30..! We were lucky to have her sing only about 45 minutes and at the end said, "Good night, love you!" and down came the curtain....I really wanted more! What took up the time was her backup singers and her band...they were ALL GREAT! Patti would utilize them to perform while she made a costume change. I'm fine with that but I still feel she should have sang a few more songs. She didn't' sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"...I understand that she's getting older (the same way I felt about Tina Turner), and I know that touring can be grueling and I empathize with her. I understand that Gladys Night's concerts are the same way (just as short). As I mentioned earlier, the ticket prices were good prices and it allowed me to sit up close. I would have not been a happy camper if the tickets were what Madonna and Beyonce are charging these days!!! I'm glad that I want to see Auntie Patti anyway!!!
